Gusti Elhoka Puspaningtiyas, Nathania Alfamarisa Siahaan, and Chelsea Delana Christiandy are three Applied Foreign Languages students from the Diponegoro University (UNDIP) Vocational School who were selected to participate in the 2025 Summer Short Program of Early Childhood Education and Culture in Japan.
This program is held by Chikushi Jogakuen University (CJU) in Fukuoka, Japan. Prior to participating in the program, they underwent a selection process through the Dejavato Foundation, in collaboration with CJU. After being officially selected, they received a series of briefings conducted by Dejavato before participating. The 2025 Summer Short Program of Early Childhood Education and Culture ran for two weeks, from June 30 to July 11, 2025. Participants came from five different countries: Indonesia, China, Taiwan, India, and Hawaii. The program provided an opportunity for participants to learn about early childhood education and Japanese culture.
In addition to lectures, the participants were given the opportunity to visit several schools in Fukuoka, including Dazaifu Shiritsu Dazaifuhigashi Elementary School, Kasugadoronko Nursery School, and Mizuki Kindergarten. These visits allowed them to interact directly with students and observe firsthand how the early childhood education system in Japan operates.
During a visit to Dazaifu Shiritsu Dazaifuhigashi Elementary School, they were shown around by the students and taught about traditional Japanese games such as origami, daruma, kendama, menko, and koma. Furthermore, during a visit to Kasugadoronko Nursery School, they gave a presentation introducing Indonesian culture and played with the children there. Finally, during a visit to Mizuki Kindergarten, they were shown how the kindergarten education system in Japan works.
They not only studied on campus but were also given the freedom to explore the beauty of Dazaifu and Fukuoka’s cultures on weekends. The Summer Short Program participants were given the opportunity to experience firsthand how the Tea Ceremony takes place, the history of how Dazaifu City discovered its historical heritage, and visit the homes of local residents there (home visit). The most memorable activity for Elhoka, Nathania, and Chelsea was the Tea Ceremony, because there they were able to experience firsthand the procedures and attitudes during the event and were also taught how to make good and proper tea.
