APEC (Asian Pacific Economics Corporation) held a forum on women and youth empowerment entitled “APEC Forum on Women and Youth Empowerment: Advancing Innovative Education and Enhancing Workforce Skills for a Sustainable and Inclusive Future” which was held on November 13-15, 2024. Rhea Gita Khaerunnisa Kosasih, Applied Foreign Language student, was selected to attend this international forum.
The forum took place over three days in Taipei and was attended by approximately 80 participants, 16 of whom were APEC member economies and students from various countries namely; USA, Peru, Canada, Vietnam, Philippines, Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, South Korea, Mexico, New Zealand, Russia, Chile, Papua New Guinea, Japan, Taiwan, and Indonesia. The purpose of this event is to encourage innovative education, youth and women empowerment, and cross-country collaboration through APEC in order to develop a more sustainable and equitable economy for all. Four students from Indonesia were selected as representatives of the APEC forum delegation, three of whom are Diponegoro University students.
The three-day event was opened with a welcome speech by the Director of the Department of Higher Education at the Taiwan Ministry of Education, Kao-Hsien Liao. His opening remarks highlighted the challenges of rapidly evolving global economic change and ongoing economic transformation, and he emphasized the importance of innovative education and workforce skills development in addressing these challenges. Through the APEC forum, it is hoped to open up new opportunities for youth and women, especially in the fields of education, entrepreneurship, and interdisciplinary skills development, to support inclusive development.
The forum was filled with a number of expert speakers in their respective fields, one of whom was Freya Wu. Freya Wu is the General Manager of 886 Studios, which is committed to building and launching Taiwan-based startups onto the global stage. In her speech, Freya socialized innovative efforts in education and entrepreneurship for youth and women. She also shared her experience in mentoring early-stage startups during her years working at Taiwan Startup Stadium. Her role as a career coach is to help aspiring professionals build confidence, discover self-worth, and determine their career path. Freya also explained the importance of entrepreneurial development to compete on a global scale, through these innovative ideas.
