Vocational, Champion! Ashila Aushafa Niigata Denalis, a 5th semester Applied Foreign Languages ​​Study Program student, won the English Speech Competition organized by the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR). The competition was held online on October 10, 2024.

This year, the theme raised in the speech competition was “The Role of Gen Z in Preserving Traditional Culture and Arts in the Digital Era”. This theme invites participants to think critically about the importance of maintaining and preserving Indonesian traditional culture and arts, especially amidst the rapid development of technology and the digital world that increasingly dominates everyday life.

Ashila managed to beat hundreds of students from all over Indonesia with a speech that was not only inspiring, but also touched the hearts of many people. The theme raised in this year’s competition “Embrace Your Insecurity, Become Your Strength, and Be Confident” is a call to accept our shortcomings and make them a source of strength, and learn to be confident. In her speech, Ashila not only demonstrated her extraordinary English skills, but also the courage to talk about her personal struggles in accepting her insecurities and turning them into a source of strength.

What makes Ashila so impressive is her ability to speak from the heart about how she learned to embrace her insecurities. In her speech, she emphasized that insecurities are human and that no one is perfect in this world. When we learn to accept our shortcomings, we can actually find hidden potential and make it an advantage. Ashila also talked about how she overcame her fear of public speaking, which was one of the biggest challenges in her life.

The Head of the Applied Foreign Language study program, Sri Wahyu Istana Trahutami S.S, M. Hum gave high appreciation to Ashila’s achievement. “We are very proud of Ashila’s achievements. This proves that students of the Undip Vocational School Faculty not only excel in academics, but also have extraordinary communication skills, which are important assets in bringing positive messages to external parties. Hopefully, this achievement can inspire other students to continue to be creative and achieve,” said the Head of the Applied Foreign Language Study Program.

Ashila not only brought home the winning trophy, but also brought pride to Diponegoro University (UNDIP), where she studies. As an Applied Foreign Languages ​​student, Ashila proves that English language skills are not only about technical skills, but also about how the language can be used to convey powerful and profound messages. She shows that students from various disciplines, including languages, have great potential to contribute in a wider field, including important personal and global issues.
