The Applied Foreign Language study program booth was one of the most crowded booths at the Young Diponegoro Orientation Expo (ODM) of Vocational College of Undip. The hype was encouraged by 2 Applied Foreign Language students who acted as costume players (cosplayers) guarding the booth. This year’s ODM Vocational School activity was held by BEM SV on Saturday (21/9) at the Muladi Dome Building, Tembalang Campus. The theme raised this time was “One Pride Many Voices”, where in its implementation, SV new students were provided with knowledge about the values that must be held and also campus culture which is certainly something that can be considered new to all new SV residents.

Apart from the core event held in the main room, there were also booths from each study program that were ready to respond to the curiosity of new students after they finished attending the event in the main room, including the Applied Foreign Language Association. Previously, Kharisma Dilla, Head of Applied Foreign Languages Students’ Association (AFL SA), emphasized the importance of learning a language in her speech, “Language is not only a means of communication, but it is also a tool that can influence our social actions, mindset, and the way we act.”

Located close to the stairs, Applied Foreign Languages’ booth carries the concept of fusion and unity between two cultures, namely British and Japanese culture. Here, new students can also see the results of the Final Project (TA) of seniors who have successfully completed their studies. There are various titles of books and short films that have been spawned by seniors at Basing and can be directly read and studied here. It is hoped that these works will give them an idea of what they need to do in the next few years, and they can start strategizing how to get there.

Finally, Dilla said that in addition to receiving aspirations and providing an overview of the study program, visitors were also spoiled with games, ichigo daifuku (mochi filled with strawberries) and cosplayers who dressed in sailor and Hogwarts school uniforms to represent 2 languages learned in the program, i.e. Japanese and English. Welcome to Applied Foreign Language. Ouyou gaikokugo e youkoso.
