Ashila Aushafa Niigata Denalis, a student of the Applied Foreign Language study program, Faculty of Vocational College, Diponegoro University (Undip), has again recorded an extraordinary achievement by winning first place in a national speech competition held by Trunojoyo University, Madura on September 14, 2024. This competition was attended by students from various Universities (PTN) and Private Universities (PTS) throughout Indonesia, and took place online.
This year, the theme raised in the speech competition was “The Role of Gen Z in Preserving Traditional Culture and Arts in the Digital Era”. This theme invites participants to think critically about the importance of maintaining and preserving Indonesian traditional culture and arts, especially amidst the rapid development of technology and the digital world that increasingly dominates everyday life.
In her speech, Ashila emphasized the importance of maintaining the cultural identity of the Indonesian nation in the era of globalization. She highlighted how technology can be a very effective tool to introduce and promote traditional arts, while still maintaining the noble values contained in that culture. In addition, she also emphasized the need for an active role from the younger generation in developing, preserving, and introducing Indonesian culture to the outside world through digital platforms.
Ashila delivered her speech with enthusiasm and confidence, presenting innovative ideas on how Indonesian art and culture can remain relevant amidst the progress of the times, both through social media, digital applications, and creative collaborations with various parties. This victory, according to Ashila, is the result of thorough preparation and support from family, friends, and lecturers at the Vocational College of Undip.
“This competition is not only about winning, but also to remind us of the importance of preserving Indonesia’s cultural heritage so that it remains alive and appreciated, especially among the younger generation. I am very grateful to be a part of this struggle and to bring Undip’s name to the national level,” said Ashila with gratitude.
The Head of the Applied Foreign Language study program, Sri Wahyu Istana Trahutami S.S, M. Hum gave high appreciation for Ashila’s achievements. “We are very proud of Ashila’s achievements. This proves that students of the Vocational College do not only excel in academics, but also have extraordinary communication skills, which are important capital in bringing cultural messages to the public. Hopefully this achievement can inspire other students to continue to be creative and achieve,” said the Head of Applied Foreign Language Study Program.
As the first winner, Ashila received a trophy, certificate, and various other awards. In addition, this speech competition also provides space for students from various universities to share thoughts and ideas on how to maintain traditional culture amidst the increasingly rapid flow of modernization.
