The Applied Foreign Language debate team won 2nd place in the Vocational Debate Competition for varsity level which was held on Saturday, October 14 2023 at the Vocational School Building, Diponegoro University, Tembalang. This achievement is the first achievement for the students at the varsity competition.

The Applied Foreign Language student debate team consisted of Misykah Auliya Ghifara, Aliyah Ansyalie, and Faiza Latifa Khairunnisa. The three of them are Applied Foreign Language students who are in their second year at the time of the comptition. The students’ participation in this competition was their first experience in a university level English debate competition. They managed to get 1 victory point in the final round which consisted of 2 matches. This achievement was a satisfying result of hard work from the students.

Before entering the final round, the participants were first selected through essay writing. Their essay topic is related to vocational education in the industrial era 5.0. After passing a strict selection, the participants who passed entered the final round in the Vocational Debate Competition. The participants selected for the final round were team representatives from the Logistics Management and Administration, Applied Foreign Languages, and Automotive Engineering study programs.

The Vocational Debate Competition is one of a series of competitions held to celebrate the 7th Anniversary of the Diponegoro University Vocational School. This debate competition carries the title The Challenges of Vocational Education in Industry 5.0. This theme related to Industry 5.0 aims to motivate students to think critically and be relevant to developments in science and technology. Apart from that, it is hoped that they can always catch up with developments and have competitiveness at the global level.
