Pati, 31 July 2023 – Writing short stories is a good way to express students’ creativity. Writing short stories allows students to explore various concepts and ideas that they may have never thought about before. This can stimulate students’ imagination and creative power. Through short story writing practice, students will hone their writing skills, including how to structure a story line, build characters, and convey emotions. Writing short stories in English will help students improve their overall English skills, including grammar, vocabulary, and sentence structure.
In the spirit of having a positive impact, Community Engagement Team II from Undip held a short story writing class at MTs Matholi’ul Huda, especially for G9 students who had learned the basics of constructing sentences in English. This activity aims to stimulate students’ creativity and English language skills in expressing their ideas and imagination through writing.
The theme “Painting Worlds with Words” was wisely chosen to inspire class participants to explore imaginative worlds through their writing. Through an interactive and inclusive approach, students are invited to hone their short story writing skills in English and engage in creative discussions about various story ideas. This activity was carried out in one meeting to deliver the material, then students were given five days to apply the material that had been presented by writing short stories in English according to their own ideas and imagination. After that, all students who successfully completed their work were given appreciation in the form of prizes.
With this writing class, it is hoped that students will be encouraged to paint the world with words, they can develop artistic sensitivity, emotional intelligence and cross-cultural communication skills.
