Stronger Minds for a Stronger Future: Raising Mental Health Awareness Among Gen Z

Semarang, August 29, 2025 – Mental health issues are gaining increasing attention among the younger generation, particularly university students. Recognizing this importance, the Applied Foreign Languages Study Program, Vocational School, Diponegoro University, held a Visiting Professor event with the theme “Stronger Minds for a Stronger Future: Mental Health Awareness among Gen Z.”

The event featured Dr. Nena Padilla-Valdez from Universiti Teknologi Brunei, Brunei Darussalam, as the keynote speaker. In her presentation, titled “Revolutionizing Social Care and Support for Students’ Mental Well-being,” Dr. Nena emphasized that students, as part of Gen Z, face unique challenges that often impact their mental health. From academic pressures and adapting to technological developments to the demands of globalization, all require appropriate support strategies.

Through this interactive session, students were not only encouraged to understand the importance of maintaining mental health but were also introduced to various social strategies that can help them remain resilient. Dr. Nena emphasized that environmental support, whether from family, friends, or educational institutions, plays a crucial role in fostering a healthy mental balance.

This event provides a space for reflection for students to openly discuss mental health issues, which have often been considered taboo. Furthermore, it is hoped that this activity will foster awareness that maintaining mental health is just as important as maintaining physical health.

With this Visiting Professor program, Diponegoro University affirms its commitment to equipping students not only with academic knowledge but also with relevant life skills to navigate the dynamics of the modern world. As the theme, “Stronger Minds for a Stronger Future,” suggests, the young generation is expected to grow into resilient, healthy individuals, ready to build a better future. <>
