SEMARANG – A relaxed and friendly atmosphere filled the Jogging Track area at Diponegoro University (Undip), Tembalang, on Friday (10/10) afternoon. The VOICE English Club, a Student Activity Unit (UKM) from the Undip Vocational School, successfully held its “Picnic Day” event, an initiative to practice English language skills in a unique and enjoyable format. Starting at 3:30 PM WIB, the event served as a forum for students to gather and communicate in an open-air setting.
Embracing a picnic concept, participants were invited to interact in an informal setting, sitting on mats and enjoying various snacks. The main objective was to help students build confidence in using English for everyday conversations. Through a series of interactive games and group discussions conducted entirely in English, students were encouraged to speak actively without the fear of making mistakes.
High enthusiasm was evident from the participation of students from a wide range of study programs. The event successfully brought together students from diverse disciplines, such as Tax Accounting (AP), Information and Public Relations (Inhum), Industrial Electrical Engineering (TLI), and Industrial Chemical Engineering Technology (TRKI). This diversity not only enriched the discussions but also proved that English proficiency is an important competency valued by students across academic fields.
“We want to show that learning English doesn’t have to be rigid and confined to a classroom. In an atmosphere like this, students can be more relaxed, and their speaking skills can be honed more naturally,” stated one of the VOICE English Club organizers. This event is hoped to become a regular activity to strengthen solidarity among Vocational School students while simultaneously improving their foreign language skills. <>
