Basing Students Study Housekeeping and F&B Service Operations in the Japanese Hospitality Industry

Nabila Nayla Azzra, a student in the Applied Foreign Languages Study Program at Diponegoro University, had the opportunity to undertake an internship at The Park Hotel Jodogahama, a Japanese hotel renowned for its service and stunning views of Jodogahama Beach, located in Miyako City, Iwate Prefecture. This internship program provided students with hands-on experience in the hospitality industry and exposed them to international hotel culture.

During her internship, Nabila had the opportunity to work in more than one department, rotating across two key departments: Housekeeping and Food and Beverage Service. In the Housekeeping division, Nabila was involved in the operational aspects of guest room maintenance, from cleaning and changing linens to setting up rooms according to hotel standards, to providing complete amenities. The detailed work system and cleanliness standards typical of the Japanese hotel industry provided Nabila with significant professional experience.

Furthermore, in the Food and Beverage Service division, Nabila was involved in guest service operations during breakfast hours. He is in charge of preparing the breakfast set-up, looking after the restaurant reception, explaining the menu to guests, providing dishes according to the set set, and handling the cleaning process of the dining area. Nabila also gained direct experience in helping prepare VIP meals in the afternoon and evening.

This internship experience served as a learning experience that expanded Nabila’s technical and communication skills in the international hospitality industry. It is hoped that this opportunity will further develop the skills of Indonesian students in the hospitality field, opening up job opportunities and collaborations in the hotel and restaurant sector globally.
