Applied Foreign Languages study program has once again demonstrated its commitment to preparing graduates ready to compete globally. One of its students, Irmafiana, is currently undergoing a one-year international internship in Japan at the Ooruri Hotel Shiobara Onsen in Tochigi Prefecture.
Irmafiana’s internship will begin in July 2025 and will last until July 2026. This placement focuses on two key hotel operational areas: the Restaurant and Housekeeping. “This opportunity is invaluable, not only for practicing Japanese language skills, but also for immersing ourselves in the unique Japanese work ethic and service culture (omotenashi),” said Irmafiana.
Ooruri Hotel Shiobara Onsen is part of the Ooruri Group, known for offering authentic stays with access to natural hot springs (onsen). Nestled in the beautiful Shiobara Valley, the hotel is a favorite destination for both domestic and international tourists seeking serenity and a taste of traditional Japanese culture. Working in this environment allows Irma to interact directly with guests from various backgrounds, testing her communication and cultural adaptation skills in real time.
Applying Applied Language and Communication

In the restaurant industry, Irma is responsible for serving guests, explaining traditional Japanese dishes, and ensuring smooth communication between the kitchen and customers. In the housekeeping department, she learned about the highest standards of cleanliness and tidiness, the hallmark of Japanese hospitality.
This year-long internship is expected to serve as a bridge for Irma to become a professional with not only language skills but also operational expertise and a deep understanding of international service standards.
