In 2023, the Applied Foreign Language study program was successful in bringing 3 students to study abroad through the Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA). One of these students is Fernolivia Candradiva, a 3rd year student, who had the opportunity to study in Russia. Are you curious about the joy of studying in Russia? Check out Ferno’s letter below.

IISMA is a program that provides a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Indonesian students to study abroad for one semester. Well, hello! I’m Fern, I will share a little of my experience studying at Lomonosov Moscow State University in Russia as one of the 2023 IISMA recipients.

During my time in Russia, I did not only gain new academic experiences, but also the ability to adapt to a foreign environment that I had never experienced before. One experience that initially became a concern for me was language. In Russia, most local residents rarely speak English. The Russian Language courses available at LMSU often only cover the basics, so sometimes more effort is required to communicate. Even though it was an obstacle at first, this felt very new and actually motivated me to learn more about Russian.

Apart from that, other valuable experiences from the IISMA program were the networks I built with new people, participating in several events, visits to local companies, and also the opportunity to be exposed to a more global world. Overall, the IISMA program not only facilitates academic activities, but also allows me to study local culture at the same time. For me, being an awardee of this program is an extraordinary, valuable and invaluable experience. Thanks for reading and see you soon!

IISMA provides full scholarships for its recipients. Costs covered include plane costs, accommodation, tuition fees at the host university, and stipend while staying in the host country. IISMA registration regularly opens at the beginning of the year. Meanwhile, the announcement of awardees is made between May and June.
