The Applied Foreign Language study program held soft skills training titled “Self-Awareness and Self-Management Skills for University Students” at the Postgraduate Building, Undip Pleburan Campus on Tuesday, 31 October 2023. This activity is intended for second and third-year students in the Applied Foreign Language study program to learn more understand themselves and anticipate increasingly higher lecture demands in the following semesters.
The speaker in this activity was Liftiah, Ph.D., who is a psychology lecturer from Semarang State University. She invited students to discuss awareness about their own personalities and what are the characteristics of someone who has self-awareness. The expert explained that self-awareness is not just knowing your name or information according to what is on your ID card. Self-awareness is awareness of what one loves, what one is good at, what oneself is capable of doing, and what the environment needs.
To allow participants understand more about themselves, they were asked to carry out a SWOT analysis for themselves. The discussion became more interesting when students were asked to give an assessment of their close friends who attended the activity.
Self-awareness is an important thing for students to have. This awareness can help them in their academic and social lives. Students are expected to be able to create boundaries in socializing with other students. There are times when doing good needs to be limited so as not to burden yourself. It is hoped that students can implement what they took from the training activity in their daily lives.
