Two Applied Foreign Languages students were accepted to the Summer Program of Early Childhood Education and Japanese Culture, 2023 organized by Chikushi Jogakuen University (CJU), Japan. They are Sekar Fatinah Hasibuan and Fatimah Aninda Sophiaranee, 4th semester students of the Japanese stream.

Sekar and Fatimah are 2 of the 6 participants selected through a series of selections conducted by CJU in collaboration with the Dejavato Foundation. This achievement adds to the list of students from Applied Foreign Languages program who get the opportunity to experience study overseas. Several participants who pass the selection are entitled to free accommodation from CJU.

The summer program held by CJU is a 2-week cultural exchange program. Participants will have the opportunity to experience Japanese traditional and modern culture firsthand. Apart from that, this program will also introduce participants to the education of children there. Early childhood education is one of the study programs offered at the CJU.

The international exposure from this program will enrich students’ understanding, especially for Applied Foreign Language students regarding competencies beyond languages. Children’s education certainly cannot be separated from the culture of the community. This summer program is expected to raise students’ awareness to be part of a global community that is able to appreciate diversity and work together to improve the quality of life.
